Final Year Project

Project Title

Investigating the Influences on Karachi’s Waste Management Issues: A case study on North Nazimabad

Description

Karachi is the sixth largest metropolis in the world, which is facing large-scale waste management issues. The intricacies, politics, and the increasing privatization of waste management have rendered the system too complex to be comprehensively studied on a city-wide level. Therefore, my research develops a context-specific, micro-level study. It will assist in understanding the problem of waste management at the level of one neighbourhood, so that the results can be extrapolated to comprehend the macro level, Karachi-wide, issue. I used North Nazimabad, Block I as a case study in order to generate qualitative data on the micro-level political, social, demographic, and economic factors. Primary sources consist of household and market surveys and in-depth interviews with various stakeholders.
